Dapper Day at Disney

The definition of “dapper” is as follows: neat and trim in appearance; very spruce and stylish. Now think of adding that aesthetic to the wonderland that is Disney World in the form of Dapper Day! Having a hard time imagining it? Let me tell you a bit about my recent Dapper Day experience and why we will be going back again and again and again!

First, a little background about the Dapper Day tradition. In 2011, this unofficial event was created to bring together Disney magic and sophisticated style. From the Dapper Day website: “Dapper Day celebrates fun, refined style from yesterday and today...We do not aim to recreate a specific period. All sophisticated attire is encouraged from vintage-inspired classics to chic, contemporary looks.” In other words, you are encouraged to “step out in style” in any way that represents you!

My husband, Dave, and I had the pleasure of spending a weekend with friends at Disney World for our very first Dapper Day. I’m not going to lie to you, I did a lot of planning because we are theater people and we don’t ever do anything in a small capacity. Plus, it was a great excuse to research and buy the Tiki Room dress of my DREAMS! We honestly thought we were going to be terribly uncomfortable all weekend in crinolines and suspenders, but it really wasn’t bad at all! Tip: I did, however, see lots of people switching their comfortable shoes for glorious heels when it was time for pictures 😊.

We began our first Dapper Day morning with breakfast at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (cue

that Tiki Room dress I mentioned). When we walked into the Kona Café, we literally felt like old movie stars ~ it was one of our favorite moments! Then it was on to Magic Kingdom where we were inspired by the creativity we got to witness in everyone else’s looks. The next day at Epcot, Dave and I did a little “Dapper Day Disneybounding” with our Sully and Boo vintage look…and it was just as amazing! Throughout the whole weekend, I especially loved seeing children and families and even service dogs “dappered out” to the nines. Tip: When you walk past others who are dolled up, make sure to throw out some good vibes by waving and saying, “Happy Dapper Day!”

My absolute favorite part of the weekend was spending time with my husband and dear friends Marcus and Molly, as well as our new friends Kevin and Nicholas, doing Disney World in a unique and exciting way. Dapper Day brings a huge sense of community to an already magical place and we will definitely be going back!
