Making the Most of a Rainy Disney Day

Nothing threatens to put a damper on any vacation more than rainy weather, especially when you were envisioning warm, sun-filled days in the Disney World theme parks. Fortunately, we’ve got some tips to help you pack so much fun into a rainy Disney day that the wet weather will become just an afterthought!

Wait Awhile: Afternoon thundershowers are common in central Florida (especially during the summer months), but complete washouts occur less frequently. Duck into a store or grab a bite to eat, and sunny weather may have reappeared by the time you’re done!

Ride the Monorail: The monorail itself is a great pastime, but you can add even more adventure to your ride by hopping off at each of the three monorail resorts: The Grand Floridian, The Polynesian Village, and the Contemporary Resort. These deluxe resorts feature impeccable theming, award-winning restaurants, and super fun gift shops. You could easily spend an entire afternoon exploring these amazing hotels!

Hit the Arcade: What better way to while away a wet day! Most onsite Disney resorts offer arcades, so you’d likely not even have to leave your hotel to get your game on. But if you’re in the mood for a longer distraction, consider arcade-hopping at several different resorts. Tip: Our FAVORITE arcade is located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, and a visit here pairs perfectly with a monorail ride.

Check for Character Meal Cancellations: While character meals initially book up months in advance, last-minute cancellations are common in order to avoid no-show fees. Use your My Disney Experience app to check for same-day reservations at a resort-located character meal, and spend a rainy day with your favorite Disney friends!

Go to the Parks Anyway: Many of Disney’s theme park attractions are located

indoors, providing a respite from inclement weather. And when it’s raining, the parks tend to be less crowded…which translates into shorter wait times for guests who refuse to let a little wet weather ruin their day. So grab those ponchos and flip flops and head to the parks ~ you may find that your family’s best vacation memories are made while playing in the rain (ours sure have been!).
