Disney's Port Orleans Resorts
Disney World’s onsite Value Resorts are great for budget-minded families, but if you’re looking for a Resort with a few more amenities (without breaking the bank), Disney’s onsite Moderate Resorts are the perfect solution. My favorite in this category? Disney’s Port Orleans-Riverside AND Disney’s Port Orleans French-Quarter Resorts.
Located adjacent to one another, these sister Resorts offer something for everyone. French Quarter is modeled after its historic New
Orleans namesake with magnolia trees, wrought-iron fences, cobblestone streets…even beignets served up warm and fluffy in the quick-service restaurant. Riverside is designed to evoke a rural Louisiana bayou, complete with a fishing hole and a backwoods-inspired swimming pool. So which one’s the better Resort for your family? Today, we’re breaking down the pros and cons of each to help you answer that question!
First, size. French Quarter is the smaller of the two Resorts, providing a more intimate ambiance and shorter walks to transportation, the lobby, the food court, and the pool. On the other hand, Riverside’s larger size allows room for more Resort activities. Generally, I recommend French Quarter for families with younger children and Riverside for families with older kids who don’t mind a little extra walking if it means there’s more to do!
Second, amenities. Both Resorts boast intricately-themed pools with slides that the whole family can ride on. And, best of all, guests of both Resorts are welcome to use both pools! When it’s time to eat, French Quarter offers only a food court, while Riverside has both a food court AND a sit-down restaurant. If a sit-down restaurant is a necessity, Riverside is the right Resort for you. However, if you’re content with just a food court at your fingertips, French Quarter’s is incredible (and Riverside’s sit-down restaurant is just a short walk away!).
Third, guest rooms. Rooms at French Quarter sleep a maximum of 4 guests. At Riverside, some rooms sleep up to 5 (with two queen beds and a daybed). Looking for an extra magical room that your family will never forget? You can’t beat Riverside’s Royal Guest Rooms, decorated by Tiana herself in preparation for your arrival (she even included a fiber-optic headboard!). So if you’ve got a larger family (or a special little princess or two), the rooms at Riverside might be the perfect fit for you!
And finally, location. Riverside and French Quarter finish in a dead heat in this category. Situated just a short ferry ride from Disney Springs, these Resorts beat out all of the other Moderate Resorts location-wise.
